Pix payments for studios: how to take and reconcile Pix

The short answer

Pix is Brazil's instant bank payment, used by most adults in the country. The pain for studios is not taking Pix, it is matching each transfer to the right member and pass. The fix is to take Pix inside the booking, with a charge tied to that order, so the booking confirms itself when the money lands.

Pix is Brazil’s instant bank payment, and for a studio in Brazil it is often the payment members prefer. Taking Pix is easy. Matching each transfer to the right member, class and pass is the hard part. The reliable fix is to take Pix inside the booking, so the payment is tied to one order and confirms itself.

What is Pix and why do studios in Brazil need it?

Pix is the instant payment system run by the Banco Central do Brasil. A payer scans a QR code or types a key (a phone number, e-mail, tax number or random key) and the money arrives in seconds, at any hour.

It is everywhere. About 80 billion Pix transactions were made in 2025, moving more than R$35 trillion, according to the central bank figures reported by BMC News (checked October 2026). By December 2025, about 148 million individuals, roughly 86% of adults, and 12.8 million businesses used it (Movimento Econômico, checked October 2026).

For a yoga or pilates studio in Brazil, that means many members will simply ask “can I pay by Pix?”. If you run a studio in Brazil with an international crowd, or you are an English-speaking owner setting up there, plan for Pix from day one.

Why is Pix reconciliation a headache?

The usual setup looks like this: the studio prints its Pix key on a sign or sends it on WhatsApp, the member transfers, then sends a screenshot. At the end of the day someone opens the bank app and tries to match each line to a person and a purchase.

That breaks down quickly:

  • The statement does not say what the money was for. You see “Maria S., R$70.00”, not “Maria Souza, 10-class pack”.
  • Names do not match. A partner or parent pays from their own account.
  • Amounts repeat. Five people paying R$70 on the same morning look identical.
  • Screenshots are not proof. A screenshot can be from a scheduled transfer that never went through.
  • Timing slips. The member books now, pays later, and the seat is held on trust.

Each mismatch is small. Over a month it becomes hours of admin and a few payments nobody can explain.

How does Pix inside the booking fix it?

The idea is simple: create a charge for one specific order and let the payment confirm that order.

  1. The member picks a class or a pass and chooses Pix at checkout.
  2. The system creates a Pix charge for that exact order, with its own QR code and a time limit.
  3. The member scans and pays in their bank app.
  4. The payment provider tells the booking system the charge was paid.
  5. The booking is confirmed, the credits are added to the member’s account and a receipt is sent.

Nobody types anything into a spreadsheet. The payment, the member and the pass are linked from the start.

What are the ways a studio can receive Pix?

Option How matching works Cost to the studio Effort
Fixed Pix key, manual check By hand, from the bank statement Usually free or low, depends on bank High, every day
Bank’s own Pix API Automatic, by charge ID Bank fee, varies by bank High setup (certificates, contract)
Payment provider (such as Stripe) Automatic, provider confirms Per-payment fee Low
Unique-amount QR plus bank e-mails Automatic, by exact amount No provider fee Low

A few notes on these options:

  • Payment providers are the easiest route. Stripe, for example, lists Pix at 1.19% per payment on its Brazil pricing page (checked October 2026), and Pix must be enabled on the studio’s Stripe account. On a R$70 class that is about R$0.83.
  • Bank APIs follow a standard set by the central bank, so the payment is confirmed automatically. Setup usually needs a business account, a technical integration and digital certificates, which is more than most small studios want to manage.
  • Fixed keys cost nothing in software but cost the most in staff time.

How does elastudio handle Pix?

elastudio gives studios in Brazil two ways to take Pix, both inside the booking:

  • Pix in the online checkout. Members pay by card or Pix in one checkout, on the studio’s own page, in Portuguese or English. The Pix runs through the studio’s own Stripe account, and the booking confirms itself when the payment lands. The seat is held while the QR code is valid.
  • Pix direct to the studio’s bank (Starter plan and above). elastudio shows a Pix QR code with a unique amount for that order, a few centavos different from any other open order. The studio forwards its bank’s “Pix received” e-mails to elastudio, which matches the exact amount and confirms the booking. Anything unclear goes to a review list for a person to check, and staff can always mark an order paid by hand. There is no payment provider fee on this route.

Either way, the payment record sits next to the member, the order and the receipt. elastudio never holds the studio’s money and takes no cut of the sale.

What about Pix for monthly memberships?

Recurring Pix exists. Pix Automático launched on 16 June 2025, and the central bank named gym memberships as one of its uses; the payer pays no fee and can cancel at any time (Bora Investir, B3, checked October 2026).

There are limits to know about. Stripe does not offer Pix Automático for Brazilian accounts (Stripe Pix docs, checked October 2026), and receivers must be companies with an active CNPJ (Brazil’s business tax number). In elastudio, monthly memberships are billed by card today, and Pix Automático is coming soon. For a full comparison of card, Pix Automático and boleto (a bank payment slip), see recurring billing for studios.

A checklist before you switch on Pix

  • Decide which route fits: provider, direct to bank, or both.
  • Use a business account in the studio’s name, so payments and taxes stay clean.
  • Set a time limit on each Pix charge that matches how long you hold the seat.
  • Decide what happens if a member pays after the time limit (refund or credit).
  • Tell members, on the booking page, that the booking confirms when the Pix lands.
  • Stop accepting screenshots as proof of payment.
  • Check refunds: who sends them, how fast, and where they are recorded.

Take Pix without the spreadsheet

If Pix is how your members want to pay, elastudio puts it in the same checkout as card, under your studio’s brand, with no percentage of your sales on any plan. See the full list on the features page and compare plans on pricing. Questions: support@elastudio.app.

Questions people ask

What is Pix?

Pix is the instant payment system run by Brazil's central bank, the Banco Central do Brasil. Money moves between bank accounts in seconds, any day and any hour, usually by scanning a QR code.

Can a studio outside Brazil accept Pix?

Pix is a Brazilian payment method that settles in reais. Studios with a Brazilian business and a payment account that supports Pix can accept it; studios elsewhere usually serve Brazilian visitors by card instead.

Why is Pix reconciliation hard for studios?

When members send Pix to a fixed key, the bank statement shows a name and an amount, but not which class or pass the money was for. Someone has to match each line by hand.

Can monthly memberships be paid by Pix automatically?

Brazil launched Pix Automático, a recurring Pix, in June 2025. It is not available through Stripe for Brazilian accounts; in elastudio, memberships are billed monthly by card today and Pix Automático is coming soon.
