Mindbody alternatives for small studios: an honest 2026 guide

The short answer

Mindbody is the broadest studio platform and its marketplace can bring new clients, but only its US$79 entry price is published and many features sit on higher tiers. Small studios that do not need the marketplace usually save by moving to a tool with flat published pricing, no long contract and no cut of sales, such as WellnessLiving, Punchpass, OfferingTree, Momoyoga or elastudio.

The best Mindbody alternative for a small studio is a platform with flat, published pricing, no long contract, no percentage of your sales, and booking that carries your studio’s brand. Mindbody is excellent at scale and its marketplace can bring clients, but a one-location yoga or pilates studio often pays for breadth it never uses.

What does Mindbody do well?

Mindbody earns its reputation. Founded in 2001, it powers more than 40,000 businesses according to its parent company, Playlist, and it covers almost everything a studio might want: point of sale, digital waivers, kiosk check-in, video, staff payroll, an AI front desk and a business app for staff.

Its biggest advantage is distribution. The Mindbody consumer app has millions of monthly shoppers, and ClassPass belongs to the same parent company. If you are in a dense city and new clients find you through the app, that exposure has real value. Mindbody also publishes strong security credentials, including PCI DSS Level 1 for its payments platform.

So the question is not whether Mindbody is good. It is whether a small studio needs, and can afford, what it offers.

Why do small studios look for Mindbody alternatives?

Three reasons come up most, based on Mindbody’s own pricing page and public reviews (checked October 2026):

  1. Pricing is mostly by quote. Mindbody’s pricing page shows a starting price of US$79 a month per location and “let’s talk” for the rest. Third-party guides estimate Accelerate at about US$259 to US$289 and Ultimate at about US$499 a month, but those are estimates, not Mindbody figures.
  2. Useful features sit on higher tiers. Promo codes, room and resource management and pick-a-spot start on Accelerate. Automated e-mail and text campaigns and the lead pipeline are on Ultimate. A branded member app is a paid add-on.
  3. Contracts. Mindbody says your contract depends on the plan and terms you sign. Reviewers on sites like Trustpilot often mention 12 or 24 month terms and difficulty cancelling. Read your own agreement before assuming either way.

Credit where due: Mindbody states there is no onboarding fee on any plan, and it takes no percentage of your regular sales. The marketplace fee (20% of a new client’s first purchase, capped at US$30) applies only to clients who arrive through the consumer app.

How do the main Mindbody alternatives compare?

Published monthly prices for one location, from each vendor’s pricing page, checked October 2026. Card processing is extra everywhere.

Platform Published starting price Fee on your sales Recurring memberships Contract Best for
Mindbody From US$79; higher tiers by quote None (marketplace fee on new clients) Yes Depends on terms signed Studios that want marketplace exposure
WellnessLiving US$69 (1 staff), US$199 (unlimited staff) Not published Yes Monthly or yearly A broad suite for less than Mindbody
Punchpass US$59 (Grow) None From Flow, US$99 Month to month Very small studios that want simple
OfferingTree US$120 (Studio Starter) None on studio plans Yes Monthly or yearly Studios that also need a website
Arketa US$49 yearly (Individual); studio plans by quote 3% on Individual plans Yes Monthly or yearly Design-led US boutique studios
Momoyoga Free; EUR 29 a month yearly 5% on Free only From Plus, EUR 59 a month yearly Monthly or yearly Yoga teachers with group classes
elastudio Free; CA$29 (Starter) None on any plan 1 on Free, unlimited from Starter Monthly or yearly, no setup fee Small yoga and pilates studios, bilingual studios

A few notes to keep this fair. WellnessLiving’s Starter plan allows one staff member, so studios with teachers usually need Business. Punchpass has outstanding support ratings. OfferingTree’s bundled website can replace a separate website bill. Arketa has strong integrations, including ClassPass and Wellhub.

How much could a small studio save by leaving Mindbody?

Here is a worked example for one location with three teachers, using Mindbody’s typical small-studio tier and the published price of each alternative’s plan that includes recurring memberships and enough staff logins:

Platform and plan Monthly Yearly
Mindbody Accelerate (third-party estimate) about US$259 to US$289 about US$3,100 to US$3,470
WellnessLiving Business US$199 US$2,388
Punchpass Flow US$99 US$1,188
elastudio Starter (billed in Canadian dollars) CA$29 CA$348

Treat these as a starting point, not a quote. Add card processing (similar everywhere: in Canada, Stripe charges 2.9% + CA$0.30 per domestic card, per Stripe’s pricing page, checked October 2026), any add-ons you need, and the value of marketplace clients you might lose. If the Mindbody app brings you two or three loyal members a month, that may justify part of the difference.

What should you look for in a Mindbody alternative?

Use this checklist in every trial:

  • Published prices for the plan you will actually use.
  • No percentage of your sales, on that plan.
  • Month to month, or a yearly discount you choose, not a required long term.
  • Recurring memberships, class packs and intro offers on the same plan.
  • Private sessions if you sell them.
  • Booking inside your own website, with your brand, not the software’s.
  • Member self-service for booking, cancelling within your rules and checking credits.
  • Data import from a spreadsheet, so you are not retyping clients.
  • What you give up: point of sale hardware, kiosks, video, marketplace listing. Decide which ones you truly use.

How do you move off Mindbody calmly?

  1. Read your contract for the end date and notice period. Put the date in your calendar.
  2. Export your data: clients, active memberships and passes, and future bookings.
  3. Set up the new platform with the same products and prices before telling members.
  4. Import clients and add remaining credits for active passes.
  5. E-mail members a week ahead: the new booking link, what stays the same, and when their membership will renew on the new system.
  6. Switch your website link on day one and keep Mindbody running until existing memberships have rolled over.

Is elastudio a good Mindbody alternative?

For a small yoga or pilates studio that does not depend on the Mindbody marketplace, it can be. elastudio takes no cut of your sales on any plan, connects your own Stripe account so money goes straight to you, and shows your studio’s brand on booking pages, e-mails and an installable app. Members can book in English or Brazilian Portuguese inside your own website. It does not have a consumer marketplace, point of sale hardware or video on demand, and automations and text messages are coming soon, so if those matter, Mindbody or WellnessLiving may suit you better.
